Background of the study
Casualization, defined as the increasing reliance on contract and temporary labor, has become a prominent feature of modern labor markets. In Ahoada East, many workers are employed on a contractual basis, which has raised concerns about job security, benefits, and overall job satisfaction (Olu, 2023). This study examines the effects of casualization on workers’ job satisfaction, focusing on factors such as employment stability, income variability, and the absence of career development opportunities. The trend towards casualization is driven by economic pressures, technological advancements, and the desire for flexible work arrangements (Udo, 2024). However, these arrangements often lead to reduced worker commitment and lower morale due to the lack of long-term benefits and job security. By integrating quantitative survey data with qualitative insights from contract workers, the research aims to assess the impact of casual employment on job satisfaction. It also explores potential measures that could mitigate the negative effects of casualization, such as improved contractual terms and supportive labor policies, thereby contributing to a more stable and satisfied workforce (Ifeanyi, 2023).
Statement of the problem
Contract workers in Ahoada East experience lower job satisfaction due to the inherent uncertainties of casual employment (Chinonso, 2023). The absence of job security, limited benefits, and unclear career progression contribute to reduced morale and productivity. These issues are exacerbated by the lack of comprehensive policies to protect the rights of casual workers. This study seeks to examine the effects of casualization on job satisfaction and identify key areas where policy interventions are needed to improve employment conditions and enhance worker satisfaction (Ijeoma, 2024).
